Digital avatars, face swap, motion capture, deepfakes.

Special effects technology that was once only available to a limited group is now widely available.

A peculiar effect of the mind is that it tends to believe what it sees even if you know it is not true.

What happens to society when we can no longer trust what we see?

What happens when anyone can be made to say and do anything?

The sad fact is that many people are not vigilant about the information they receive, they will accept whatever is presented. And even for those who are, it can still be more complicated than we might think.

It's not as easy as saying one source of information is good and the other bad, because everyone has a bias and wants to speak to their audience. Paired with social media as it is, this technology could result in an information environment that is absolutely untrustworthy yet very effective in persuasion.

We already see this playing out in words but images and videos are even more powerful tools.

When both sides of an issue are deceptive, when everyone is lying - how can the average citizen make informed decisions?

What can we trust when nothing is true?

Let's test this out. Put it in a story.
